During a ministerial meeting held on May 26th, 2021, the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev identified the main points for the development of renewable energy in the country highlighting that the renewable energy sector is growing rapidly, and new incentives aimed at sustainable development of the sector must be adopted.

The President ordered taking measures to bring the share of renewable energy in the total energy mix to by 15% by 2030.

Currently, Kazakhstan hits the 3% goal.
The president highlighted that it is important to increase market competition by attracting foreign investors.
To stimulate the use of renewable energy in the country, Kazakhstan will implement pilot projects for the operation of solar panels and micro-power plants, as part of the development of “smart” cities.
The President also proposed to create a New Energy Competence Center, which will experimentally gain experience in the use of high-tech innovations in the energy sector.
